Child and Adolescent therapist Ph.D. in Clinical and Health Psychology at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to moving to Spain, she was a licensed clinical psychologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, consistently ranked among the top pediatric hospitals in the United States.
Dr. Mazzuca has many years of experience providing psychological services to children, adolescents, and families. Currently, she is a professor of psychology at Saint Louis University in Madrid, and also provides individual psychotherapy for young adults in the University Counseling Center. Her areas of specialty include cognitive-behaviorally based child and family therapy for a wide range of problems that affect children and families, such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, oppositional behavior and conduct problems, school-based behavior problems, trauma, divorce, and other emotional and behavioral difficulties common in childhood. Dr. Mazzuca also provides parent-training to improve parent-child interaction and consultation with school personnel to address behavioral and learning problems in the school setting. Her postgraduate training was oriented to the field of Child and Adolescent Psychology, with an MA in Early Intervention (ITEAP, Madrid), and specialization Clinical psychology and Psychotherapy: The child and family (UPC, Madrid) as well as in Learning Disabilities. As a child and adolescent therapist, she is able to interpret emotions expressed through drawings, evaluate the cause of school failure, provide specific guidelines to help kids and parents with bed-wetting, problems with anxiety and depression, or difficulties at school stemming from Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity. Motivated early on in her career to pass on to expertise to families, Macarena has developed psychoeducational workshops on many different topics including early intervention in nursing babies, social and health risks in adolescence, and more. Macarena understands the difficulties of living between two cultures and the adaptation effort this represents for the child and the whole family. Dr. Orlanda Varela practices general psychiatry and has training in a wide range of psychiatric and behavioral disorders. She has experience treating adults, adolescents and children. Her areas of expertise range from alcohol-related problems (Certificate of specialization from the Autonoma University of Madrid) to Anxiety and Mood disorders (Certificate from the Universities of Maastricht, Tel Aviv, Bristol and Florence), as well as Dementia (degree from the University of Amsterdam), Epilepsy and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder in children. The focus of her professional experience has been private practice. However, she also works as a Consultant Psychiatrist to Saint Louis University Madrid Campus and to the prison system where her primary responsibilities include the evaluation and prevention of suicide risk. Dr. Varela also collaborates professionally with the Ministry of Justice as a psychiatric expert. Her daily clinical activities are enhanced by her teaching (Professor of the Master of Etiology, Complutense University of Madrid) and her research (Second Place Research Award granted by the SESP in 2007).

DIVISION OF SPEECH THERAPY

After obtaining a Masters Degree in Communication Disorders from San Francisco State University in 1994, Arthur Rodin has diagnosed and treated children and adults in the United States in a variety of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools, and nursing homes as well as in people’s homes. Since coming to Spain in 1999, he has been working with the English-speaking community in Madrid, mainly school-age children, helping them with fluency (stuttering) and articulation difficulties, as well as language delays and disorders, and dyslexia. As a result of years of work with children in international schools, Arthur has a wide range of experience with problems that school- age children face as well as bilingual/ trilingual issues, and has been actively involved in coordinating with school professionals in order to enhance therapeutic outcome. To further his experience and pursue his interest in rehabilitating adults, Arthur has spent most summers since 2000 working in the United States in rehabilitation clinics and nursing homes. Prior to coming to Spain, one of his main areas of interest was helping adults suffering from swallowing and speech problems due to neurological conditions. Mariana Lombardo is a professional who has training in a wide range of communication disorders. She has experience with children, adolescents and adults. She has acquired vast clinical experience working to help people with specific needs in language rehabilitation as a result of a neurological problem, maturation process, sensory disability, or voice misuse (ex. professional of television or radio). She was a professor at a higher education institution in Argentina and lecturer on treatment of hearing loss (CNSE Madrid) and language acquisition in autism (Hospital Italiano Buenos Aires). Of special interest to Mariana is working with the auditory disabled and so she combines her private practice at Sinews with working in an association designed to assist deaf children. |

Dr. Tara Konradi has worked as an occupational therapist in a variety of clinical settings in the US including schools, sensory integration clinics, hospitals and nursing homes. She most recently has worked as a private contractor with the New York City Public School System and at a pediatric clinic with children with complex medical conditions in New York. As part of her doctorate, her research included the areas of occupational deprivation, occupational justice, neuro-occupation and work with refugees. Dr. Konradi, ,as a professional in her field of rehabilitation, works to help people with physical, developmental and/or emotional difficulties, achieve greater independence. Difficulties with independent can occur as a result of a neurological problem, the aging process, or an accident. Her capabilities include adapting a home to the needs of the person to teaching someone how to use a wheelchair. In the area of pediatric occupational therapy, she has a wide range of experience including teaching handwriting skills, treating sensory integration problems, and motor coordination training. Born and raised in the heart of the US, she has relocated to Spain to be with her fiancée and continue her vocation: assist others achieve greater independence and satisfaction in their daily lives.
